The volume of unwanted e-mails are increasing rapidly
Analysis on Third Quarter Data, 2008
A study in September 2008 by Omniquad's spam researchers emphasises both an increase in spam emails compared to total volume of emails, and also shift in spam patterns.
According to the study, the volumes of spam e-mails have increased from 79.2% in August to 89.9 % of all emails in September.
A new type of spam e-mails are being spread by spammers which contains only random text or numbers in the message body. Spammers are using Google accounts in an attempt to escape the filters; they insert a link from a Google page instead of including their actual links. When the user click on the Google link they are redirected to the actual spam website advertising products such as Viagra, medication, men's enhancements, etc
Apart from all the indirect costs that a spam message brings to your organization; a phishing attack can cost you thousands of dollars in direct damage. Fraudsters are ever increasing as they continue to find new techniques for scamming people.
Omniquad promises certainty and reliability by continuously changing and improving its content scanning technology. Our innovative and meticulous efforts towards dealing with phishing attacks are evident by the number of such e-mails caught by our system.
Another important finding in this quarter is increase in image spam. A whopping 30% of the total spam mails are image spam. Omniquad has developed Optical character recognition and Image Trap technology to identify and recognize all such image spam mails.
